Health Net is one of six providers in the state of California that is offering health insurance options to small businesses. These providers were selected through a competitive bidding process. Typically SHOP premiums are on par with the 2013 small-group market rates. In some instances, small businesses will even be able to save money on their premiums.
SHOP plans are intended to offer an extensive provider network, a standardized set of benefits, and a wide range of health insurance plan options, all at competitive pricing to employers and their employees. These choices will be available to over half a million small businesses in the state of California.
The health benefit exchange launched on October 1, 2013 with the initial coverage going into effect on January 1, 2014. Currently the exchange is open to small business owners with one to 50 eligible employees. Covered California plans to expand coverage for larger businesses in the future.
